Intermittent SAP HANA Log Backup Monitoring Failures

Last update date:

Affected releases:

No fixed releases provided.

Description:

Challenge

SAP HANA log backup monitoring fails to detect log backups during monitoring intervals. The following warning message precedes the RPO violation error in the action log for the log backup monitoring job: Current interval was shortened due to the time change on the database server, see KB4368 for more details

Cause

The SAP HANA log backup monitoring engine relies on strict time intervals: the job queries the SAP HANA catalog once per the monitoring interval defined in the policy settings. The time range in which the monitoring job looks for the new log backups depends on SAP HANA server time and may be shortened if a time shift occurs on the database server or the Veeam Backup & Replication server (e.g., server clock synchronization with the NTP server). As a result, log backup monitoring may not detect the recent log backups, which in turn causes an RPO violation error to be reported.

Solution

This issue is still under investigation and a fix will be available in a future release of Veeam Backup & Replication. If the errors persist, please contact Veeam Technical Support to carry out a deeper technical analysis.
