Description:

Symptoms

What are the trap differences between SNMPv3 and SNMPv1/SNMPv2?

Resolution

SNMPv3 traps work similar to SNMPv1 and SNMPv2 traps, with the exception that you have to provide credentials to the trap listener. To configure SNMPv3 traps for devices, verify that SNMPv3 is active on the communications tab within VoyenceControl. Also verify that the credentials associated with this device are valid. The trap packets for SNMPv3 come through as encrypted. Because of this encryption, you need to supply the same credentials to the trap listener that are supplied in VoyenceControl or the packets will not be picked up properly. To verify that the traps are working properly, look in the Event Manager within VoyenceControl or the event.log and commmgr.log on the VoyenceControl device combination server(s).
