Smarts Service Assurance Manager (Smarts SAM) console hangs and must be restarted when sm_config import operation is run with "--replace" optionSmarts SAM console hangs because of sm_config import of settings from XML configuration fileImporting settings from XML file using sm_config causes Smarts Service Assurance Manager (Smarts SAM) console to hangSmarts SAM console freezes and does not respondSmarts SAM console needs to be stopped and restarted after settings are imported from XML file using sm_config, but once Smarts SAM console is restarted it is observed that the import was successsful
The above issue is normal Smarts SAM console behavior when the sm_config command is run with the --replace option to import settings from an XML configuration file. The sm_config --replace option deletes all elements before recreating them from the XML file. If the notification list which the console is listening to is listed in the XML, this will be deleted so that the Smarts Console is disconnected from the SAM Notification Log. The Smarts SAM console cannot reconnect to the notification list because the Notification List has been deleted, so the console hangs.
Smarts SAM console is working as expected. To work around this issue, you can do either of the following: Close all Smarts consoles before running the sm_config command with the --replace option. Open the consoles again when sm_config import operation completes. OR Run sm_config without the --replace option. When this is done, the elements in Smarts SAM will only be updated rather than deleted/recreated. The Smarts console will hang until the sm_config import is complete, but will then resume normal operations.
