Description:

Symptoms

Smarts Network Configuration Manager (Smarts NCM)/VoyenceControl remote Device Server installation failsReceive "NSS_Initialize failed" error message in Smarts NCM/VoyenceControl Apache error_logInstallation of remote Device Server fails with error that it cannot communicate with the Smarts NCM/VoyenceControl Application Server Receive the following error message during Smarts NCM/VoyenceControl Device Server installatoin: ERROR: Timeout exceeded waiting for server configuration to sync Receive the following error message during Smarts NCM/VoyenceControl Device Server installatoin: ERROR: The server registration process failed. Verify that the Apache HTTP Server is running and listening on both TCP 80 and TCP 443

Cause

The above issue has been found to occur when the mod_nss and mod_revocator packages are installed in the environment. These packages are related to the OpenLDAP project. Smarts NCM requires the use of the OpenSSL, which is not compatible with these packages.

Resolution

To check to see if the mod_nss and mod_revocator packages are installed, use the following commands: rpm -qa | grep mod_nss rpm -qa | grep revocator If the "grep" command output indicates that these packages are installed, they must be uninstalled before continuing with the Smarts NCM/VoyenceControl Device Server installation.
