Resolution

Supported Operating Systems for Horizon Connection Server To keep our customers secure, VMware will not be able to support environments running an OS which is not getting security updates. You must install Horizon Connection Server on a supported Windows Server operating system. Horizon Connection Server is not supported if you install the Windows Server operating system by selecting Server Core as the operating system installation type"The following operating systems support all Horizon Connection Server installation types, including Standard, Replica and Enrolment Server: Operating SystemSupported EditionsSupported Horizon versionsWindows Server 2012 R2Standard Datacenter Horizon 8 2006 - 2309. Not supported from 2309 onwards. Windows Server 2016Standard DatacenterHorizon 8 2006 and laterWindows Server 2019Standard DatacenterHorizon 8 2006 and laterWindows Server 2022Standard DatacenterHorizon 8 2111 and later Supported Microsoft AD Domain and Forest Functional Levels Horizon uses your existing Microsoft Active Directory infrastructure for user authentication and management. You must perform certain tasks to prepare Active Directory for use with Horizon.Horizon supports the following Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) domain and forest functional levels: Microsoft Active Directory Domain and Forest Functional Level Supported Domain Controller Operating System Versions Supported Horizon versionsWindows Server 2012 R2Windows Server 2012 R2 or laterHorizon 8 2006 and laterWindows Server 2016Windows Server 2016 or laterHorizon 8 2006 and later There have been no new forest or domain functional levels added by Microsoft since Windows Server 2016.Hybrid Domain Join:We are pleased to announce the testing phase for hybrid domain join has been completed and all Horizon 8 editions now support Hybrid join with the caveats outlined below Horizon 8 now supports hybrid Microsoft AD / Azure AD - virtual desktops can now join both MSFT AD and AAD for unmanaged machines, automated full clones and instant clones. Prompt Azure PRT issuance: Azure PRT on VDI desktops enables end users to SSO into Azure AD assigned applications, hence timely issuance of Azure PRT is important. Recommendation for Instant Clone Performance - ADFS: Azure Primary Refresh Token (PRT) issuance is much quicker (of the order of 2-3 minutes) when on-prem AD is connected to Azure AD using ADFS as compared to Azure AD ConnectRecommendation for persistent clones: Both ADFS and Azure AD Connect methods of connecting on-prem AD to Azure AD are suitable. Hybrid Join Certificates are handled outside of the Horizon Suite by the chosen connectivity mechanism (ADFS or Azure AD connect) Supported Databases for Horizon Events Horizon supports the following databases for storing events: MSFT SQLOracle DBPostgreSQL For a list of specific database versions supported, please refer to https://interopmatrix.vmware.com/#/SolutionYou can deploy these databases on-premises or in your own private data centers, alongside your Horizon deployment. You can use a cloud-managed database service when Horizon is deployed in a public cloud SDDC. For example, if your Horizon deployment is in Azure VMware Solution (AVS), you can use Azure Database for the Horizon Events database. If your Horizon deployment is in VMware Cloud on AWS, you can use Amazon RDS for the Horizon Events database.Page last reviewed: October 2023
