VMware Integrated Printing is installed on Virtual Machines. The feature is functional with Horizon Windows Clients. With Zero or Thin Clients, The Printer is redirected with USB redirection cannot work with USB usage limitation.Zero / Thin clients work with a Native Client Driver Selected.
To highlight a potential workaround for a specific scenario with Legacy clients and Vmware Integrated Printing.
Note, for Scanners, Printers and Serial Devices, USB Redirection is not recommended: Please see USB Redirection Recommendations for details With Client Printer Redirection, users can print from a remote desktop to any local or network printer available on their client or thin/zero client computer. For printers redirected from a Windows client to a remote desktop, VMware Integrated Printing supports the following types of printer drivers on the remote desktop with Universal Printer Driver (UPD). You do not need to install any driver on the remote desktop. please refer to https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Horizon/2206/horizon-remote-desktop-features/GUID-39C87770-69C9-4EEF-BBDB-8ED5C0705611.html For a Windows client, this would be the VMware Universal EMF Driver or the VMware Universal XPS Driver, depending on the Preferred UPD selection. For a Linux/Mac client, this would be the VMware Universal Postscript Driver. On thin/zero client, install specified printer dirver for physical USB printer is difficult, so there are some issues when usging VMware Integrated Printing UPD solution.
You can utilize the Driver Mapping Group Policy feature to help redirect with an explicitly specified driver. The printer driver need to install in remote desktop firstly. Please do NOT use Mware Universal EMF Driver, VMware Universal XPS Driver and VMware Universal Postscript Driver for driver mapping.Ideally, please use a modern zero or thin client with the capabilities to support Vmware Integrated Printing.
